Scream for speed is a single player racing game in which the player uses their voice to control the car’s speed and use a keyboard or controller to steer and brake. The game itself is time trial based, the player’s objective is to finish the lap as fast as possible.
There are 2 tracks available to choose, first a straight track to see how fast you can really go and how much noise you can make, and one with many twists and turns called spiral, to add difficulty in controlling the car with more precision using your voice.
This game was made for a project in my final year of University, in which we had to design a game which consisted of 2 interactive modalities, we had the choice to combine 2 of either VR, AR, Speech input, mouse, keyboard or controller/ gamepad. For this I chose speech input and keyboard + the use of a controller as optional.
The game itself does not listen for phrases said by the player, instead it listens for all noise of a certain volume inputted from the microphone.
The game itself was developed within Unity, and scripting in C# for all car controls and GUI functions.
